I found my passion for hotshop soft glass by internship and then, an apprenticeship. I journeyed on to lampworking borosilicate hard glass, which is the method I currently use. Fascination with the medium of glass, my desire to continually push the boundaries of my skill-set, and helping support other survivors of violent crime have brought me to this moment.
Beginning my career in the beauty industry resulted in 20+ years practicing in the field. Combining my two passions in life felt seamless and natural. I began forming the foundation for making glass handled makeup brushes.
In a male dominated industry, I have faced adversity, but I have exceptional pride in my unique “take” on this medium, and continue to spread the word to anyone who will listen to this message of self-love. Pursuing my dreams in the face of great trauma has me proclaiming self-care!
My work has been described as challenging the common conception of traditional lampworking styles with detailed execution applied to a unique form with function and purpose. The brushes are intended to create highly original pieces that showcase each individual’s style through the art of our beauty routine, transcending race, gender, age, ethnicity and orientation.
Just as this idea was coming to fruition, I walked into a home invasion/robbery in-process and was seriously injured. Although the experience does not define me, I have used it as a motivating factor in giving back. It inspires me to serve as a catalyst in supporting others. My desire is to assist the recipients of these pieces to feel more beautiful within themselves, confident, fashion-forward, and embracing their personal uniqueness. My message is of self empowerment.
I have been developing a collection of functional artwork pieces as tools for artists to paint their world any hue they choose to.
